Lincoln County Room

The Lincoln County Public Library houses a North Carolina Collection at the Charles R. Jonas Library. This collection consists of non-circulating reference, historical, and cultural materials that focus on Lincoln County.  The collection also includes materials from bordering counties, genealogical resources and the state of North Carolina.

Resources available

  • Books and Periodicals: collected materials focus on the history and genealogy of Lincoln County and surrounding areas.
  • Microfilm Records: Lincoln holds records of marriages, wills, deeds, court minutes, and land grants for Tryon, Lincoln, and Gaston Counties along with other local materials including some church records.  The Lincoln Times-News and other Lincolnton newspapers are available as well.  
  • Vertical Files: the vertical files at the Charles R. Jonas library are primarily "Family files". Follow this link to view a listing of surnames for these files.  we are always happy to receive more information on local families.

Help

A Lincoln County Public Library staff member is avaiilable for assistance.  Please call in advance to schedule a meeting time.  The North Carolina Collection is only available during library operating hours.  Staff will be glad to try to answer  questions for those who are  unable to use the collection in person.
